Aajayah Ray, Rashad Nelson and Aaron Willis died in a car accident involving Monona PD


For the month of January 2024, the names of the people killed in a collision that occurred after a pursuit involving the City of Monona Police Department have been released by the Dane County Medical Examiner's Office.

Aajayah M. Ray, age 19, of Sun Prairie, Rashad L. Nelson, age 30, of Madison, and Aaron J. Willis, age 30, all of Madison, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred on January 1 at approximately 9 p.m., according to a press release distributed at 9 a.m. and sent Friday morning.

Near the intersection of County Highway AB and Femrite Drive in the Town of Cottage Grove, the collision occurred east of the intersection.

Immediately after this fatal collision, the department made some temporary adjustments to its pursuit policy in response to inquiries made about the details of this collision and the circumstances surrounding it.

Although the Examiner's Office said the three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, they also said the cause of their deaths and the manner in which they occurred are still under investigation. On the third and fourth of January, the autopsies were completed.

According to the announcement, the victims continue to be investigated by the Examiner's Office as well as the Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) of the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ).
